Bayou Blues

                                               a gentle breeze
                                               fallen blossoms skim
                                             flooded graves
                                         in a locked shipyard
                                             halyards creak
                                         the wintry wind
                                               whistles through a knothole—
                                                  more layoffs
                                         hurricane squatters
                                               the sea takes back
                                                  the seawall
                                         fine grained sand swirls
                                             around a beached whale
                                         gulf spill
                                                    lightning chases night
                                               from the oily shore
