The Far North

The Far North
campfire smoke
drifts into the midnight dusk
mosquito bitten
pungency of cedar
in the evening shadows
Haida totem pole
cobweb cabin
the one armed hippie
offers us pancakes
off season
the empty shores
of a salmon run
shivering rain
the condensation of our breaths
in the tent
glass of wine
the bear grows larger
fifty years later
