Catnip

sunset years
a kitten whiskers
its first daffodil

quietly she finds
her sunspot

backyard birdsong
makes dreaming claws
come out

golden light
through the high grass
only his tail

tiny elfin purr motor
thrums into my dreams

moving among
the midnight shadows
neighbor’s black cat
