Haiku Society of America Meetings 2012

Haiku Society of America meetings are held quarterly at various locations throughout the U. S. The HSA also supports other local, national and international haiku activities.

The locations, times, and programs for the Quarterly Meetings appear in the HSA Newsletter and on this page of the HSA Web site. Announcements and details of HSA regional meetings appear in the HSA Newsletter and on the HSA Web site (see HSA Regional Announcements). Inquiries regarding regional meetings can also be addressed to the appropriate Regional Coordinator. Dates, times and locations are subject to change. Please verify your travel plans with the coordinator for each quarterly meeting.

2012 Haiku Society of America Meetings

Details of locations, times, and programs will appear in the HSA Newsletter and Web site, as will announcements and details of HSA regional meetings. Reminders of national meetings, HSA contest deadlines, and occasional other news or announcements will also be sent by e-mail. Inquiries regarding regional meetings can also be addressed to the appropriate regional coordinator.

1st Quarterly Meeting: February 12, 2012 @ Seattle, WA

The first quarterly meeting will be on Sunday, February 12 from 1:15-4:15 p.m. at the Broadview Branch of the Seattle Public Library. We will have an optional Ginko at 10:30 at Carkeek Park and optional dinner, 5:00 TBD.

The Quarterly Meeting will be held in Seattle, Washington and feature an afternoon of speakers as well as two optional events.

Carkeek Park

10:30 a.m. (optional event, no cost): Meet at Carkeek Park for a ginko walk. "Here, 220 acres of lush forest, meadows, wetlands, creeks, and beach are formed by the magic of water and time." There are over six miles of trails! We will pass by Old Piper's Orchard, through woods, see Piper's Creek and eventually get to Carkeek Beach, with views (of mountains or fog?) Cross your fingers for great weather, from the beach you can see the southern tip of Whidbey Island, the Kitsap Peninsula, and the Olympic Mountains.

Bring a sack lunch if you think you might get hungry.

From Carkeek Park to the Greenwood Library, it is about a 5 minute drive. For those riding the bus, we encourage you to arrange a carpool with someone who drove, so you can get to the library in time. For assistance with this, please contact the host.

2nd Quarterly Meeting: May 25-27, 2012 @ San Francisco, California

HSA’s  2nd Quarter Meeting – Hosted by Haiku Poets of Northern California, May 25-27, 2012 

The second quarterly HSA meeting of 2012 will take place in conjunction with the American Literature Association conference, where there will be two panels on haiku. The ALA portion of the meeting will be followed by an afternoon of readings and workshops at the O'Hanlon Center for the Arts in Mill Valley hosted by the Haiku Poets of Northern California. For information about the ALA conference, see the ALA website at <http://www.calstatela.edu/academic/english/ala2/american_literature_association_2012.html>.

We will meet at the O'Hanlon Center for the Arts in Mill Valley from 1 to 5 p.m. David Grayson will present a talk, Carolyn Hall and Maggie Chula will read their own work, and Garry Gay and John Thompson will lead a rengay workshop. Anyone who would like to meet to eat lunch together outdoors may gather outside the O'Hanlon Center at around noon (bring your own lunch).

4th Quarterly Meeting: December 15-16, 2012, Winston-Salem, NC

Winter Light: A Carolina Haiku Gathering

We hope to see our fellow Haiku Society of America members at Winter Light: A Carolina Haiku Gathering, December 14-16, 2012. We'll have workshops, readings, and performances by North Carolina poets Lenard D. Moore, Curtis Dunlap, and others. Plus, out of town guests including Ce Rosenow, President of the Haiku Society of America.
